Create Your Own Website and Start Making Money

Search Engine Optimization

When you finish creating your website, you want to make sure that people find it. The truth is you are not really finished building your website until you optimize it for the search engines, like Google and Yahoo.

Your ultimate goal is getting your site to be listed on the FIRST page of a Google search. Specifically, when someone types in the keywords that relate to your website, you ideally want your website to appear on the first page of the Google results, so you would be among the top 10 websites that come up when your keywords are typed in.

You know from your own experience that when you do a Google search, you rarely go past the first page of links (10 on each page) to investigate your topic. You figure you want to look at the best sites, and the best or most relevant sites usually show up on the first page of any Google search.

In my personal example, I would hope that my website, www.beatles-history.net, will show up on the first page of a Google search when someone types in the words "Beatles history." Lo and behold, if you do a Google search right now, you'll see that my site is listed among the top three "Beatles history" sites on the FIRST page.

Google Ranking

Google ranks every page on the internet with their own ranking system called PageRank. The way they determine your website's page rank is complicated, but there are several ways you can optimize your website to achieve a high page ranking on Google.

I'll admit I don't know ALL the techniques and ALL the ways to optimize my search engine ranking. What I do know is that Site Build It was THE way I achieved my extremely high page ranking in less than a year. No joke!

When you do a Google search for "Beatles history", the results say there are over 18 million websites from your to choose from. I launched my Beatles History site in January 2009, and by August 2009, my site was listed as one of the top 10 websites in the Google search for "Beatles history." I could have NEVER done that without the help of Site Build It!

Title, Keywords and Page Description

One of the most important things you can do to build a successful website (besides providing quality content) is to fill in the title, keywords and page description code on EACH page of your website. Many people will do this on their home page, but then forget to fill in these sections on each page of their website.

This enables the search engines to not only track your home page, but also the many other pages on your site. Some people may not discover your site through your home page, but through a more specific topic on one of the sub-sections (or pages) of your site.

That is why it is important to have each page be built around significant keywords that people are searching for. As I described previously in my personal example, the most popular Google searches for The Beatles fall under the names of their albums and songs. So, I decided to structure my Beatles History site in terms of each album in the group's career. That way, I could use the keywords for each album on that specific page of my website.

If you are using a web building interface like 1and1.com's WebsiteBuilder PLUS or Site Build It, there will be a place for you to fill in the title, keywords and page description on each page of your site. If you are programming the website yourself, there are simple HTML codes which you can use to enter this information. Just view the source code of any webpage and you should see the HTML codes called "meta" tags near the top.

This is just one of many search engine optimization strategies that Site Build It can teach you. If you truly want to maximize your website's presence in the search engines, you should build at least one website with Site Build It to learn all the techniques.
